The Final Two, the Future and a Giveaway

It’s hard to believe, but we are down to the two final recipes in You Made That Dessert? Months ago we actually each picked a recipe that we wanted to save for the end. So after 88 recipes we have finally reached 89 and 90! When we started 2 and ½ years ago, this point seemed so far away!

We have been asked many times about what we would do once we have finished the book. Many people wondered if we would bake our way through a new cookbook or try something else besides baking. After much brainstorming we have made a decision. We want to keep our blog Best Friends Baking. It’s been a lot of fun to do something together, even though we are miles apart. We are both very passionate about baking, so that will remain the focus of the blog. Instead of going through another cookbook, we each will be trying at a minimum of one new recipe a month and blogging about it. We have free reign to pick whatever recipe (Hello Pinterest!) and we will no longer each be baking the same thing. In addition to something new, we’ll also be posting some of our favorites and some tips and techniques that we have learned along the way. We hope that this will turn into a resource for not only us, but you to consult as we continue to grow as bakers. We hope you’ll stay with us on our baking journey!

You Made That Dessert?: Create Fabulous Treats, Even If You Can Barely Boil Water
As this project has been winding down, we thought it would be fun to have a little giveaway. How would you like your very own copy of You Made That Dessert? for your kitchen? We are giving you a chance to win this wonderful cookbook. Obviously we are biased, but it is truly a fabulous dessert cookbook! The recipes are very detailed and every recipe has a picture!! All you have to do for a chance to win is leave a comment on this post with which recipe was your favorite or which recipe you would most like to make. Only one entry per person and you must live in the US. One winner will be selected at random. The deadline is Wednesday, June 13 at 11:59 pm CDT. Thanks for reading our journey so far and good luck!

  1. I'm so very, very glad you are still planning on keeping the Baking Blog up. I so enjoy reading about all the tasty things you both are making!
My favorite one is the Brownie Ice Cream Torte. I love ice cream cake, but can't see spending a ton of money of one from Dairy Queen, when I know I would be eating most of it myself. I'd love also to be able to get into the kitchen more with Saffron in helping make delicious things for our family!
Good luck to you both! I wish you only the best in your baking blog's future!

  2. Hooray! Glad to see you going forward. I'd get the Mrs. to try the Pumpkin Mousse, we are doing a Thanksgiving in July and I believe it would be a nice addition.

  3. WOWOWOW ladies - congratulations!! I cant believe you've baked your way through that entire book!! I am SO glad you are going to keep the blog going - because I really have enjoyed following. Although I'm not a great baker myself - I have probably been the most impressed with the biscotti like recipes just because it seems so darn difficult! But my favorites - that just normally make my mouth water was probably the more basic recipes - one of my favorites that I even considered making myself - was wwwwwwwaaaaaaaayyy back in 2010 - the S'more bars. But I wonder...why do you think she never included a rice krispy recipe on there? :D Congratulations again!

  4. Congratulations Summer and Lisa for reaching this goal! Very proud of both of you! What an accomplishment, plus you have become great bakers as the result. While I have made a couple of the recipes, I think I want to try making the cheesecake cupcakes and see how they turn out. I'm excited that you are continuing the blog and look forward to new treats!

  5. Congrats, you two! It's such a feeling of accomplishment to bake through a whole book, isn't it? :) I'm excited that you're going to keep the blog going. That Almond Joy cheesecake looks amazing (of course, that is one of my favorite candy bars)!

  7. What a fun and yummy accomplishment you both have shared together. I am so impressed that you two have made it through the entire cookbook, even when you came across a recipe that you didn't find very appealing (coffee!!). I love the bond that you two share, and that you find fun ways to keep in touch even though you are far away from one another. I cannot tell you how many times I read through your blogs thinking, oh, that looks good, I want to make that....wait, I don't have the recipe!!!! I can't make it! So many good ones come to mind! To name a few, lime glazed citrus tea cakes, mint truffles, cherry berry stove top cobbler, my mouth is watering, brownie ice cream torte, salty sweet carmel nut bars, banana snack cake, stop me!!! Ok, I guess the one recipe I would have to pick is the Apple Crumble from Nov. 2010. I was in Washington visiting my sweet new nephew Ezra, and Lisa and I got to make the recipe together. I actually got to eat one of the famous best friends baking desserts!
Keep on baking girls!! I love to read your blogs, it gives me hope as a novice!!
